A Note from Your 6th Grade Teachers...
Congratulations, 6th Grade Families! You survived the first week of school! Give yourself a generous pat on the back. We hope that your transition into this year's distance learning program has been a smooth one. We thank you immensely for giving us your patience and grace!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Glowe, Ms. Laboy, Mr. Bhandari, and Mrs. Alcorta
Important Reminders
- When completing assignments, please make sure scholars are only submitting what is asked for on the assignment. Many notes will be checked during zoom meetings and will not need to be submitted. The assignments will be starred on the daily photo of the student agenda on the stream. Starred assignments will need to be turned in each day.
- Also, you will start to see assignments from the whole week posted; however, I would suggest not to allow students to skip around. It is important that students complete assignments in the order that they are assigned. Many of the subjects are cross curriculum and build off each other. Students should never feel overwhelmed by the amount of schoolwork they need to complete.
- Every Friday, we will have a Homeroom Zoom at 8am to check in on scholars. This will be the only zoom on Fridays during Remote Learning. Please find the zoom link in the Google Classroom labeled Friday Homeroom Zoom.
- Mrs. Glowe, Ms. Laboy, and Mr. Bhandari will be offering office hours on Fridays. Please email the teacher to schedule a 15-minute time slot or for more information.
Important Dates
Monday, 8/24 - Online MAP Testing (morning)

This Week at a Glance
Literature and Poetry
Next week in Literature, we will conclude our first short story, “The Sound of Thunder.” Make sure to ask your scholar how this exciting story ends! We will also introduce our first poem, “My Heart Leaps Up.” Scholars will have the opportunity to see the vivid imagery William Wordsworth uses in this poem noted for its simplicity. On Friday, we will begin our first novel, Tales of the Greek Heroes. Please make sure your scholar has their own copy as we will be helping them improve their annotation skills. Remember a book is a gift you get to open again and again!
We will learn about Inverse Operations. Then we
will move to the distributive property. After that, we will learn about the
order of operation, and start thinking about solving word problems using the
operations we have learned. - Mr. Bhandari
This week we will explore further into Geography. Scholars will identify ways we interact with our environment. We will also be practicing map skills, including using lines of longitude and latitude to determine absolute location. As an enrichment activity, I encourage students to take a photo of themselves interacting with their environment and upload to Google Classroom at the end of the week. More details to come in this week's Google Classroom assignments. - Ms. Laboy
