Literature/Poetry
This week scholars began their new poem, If, by Kipling. Scholars also began our next class novel, Anne of Green Gables. Scholars have been introduced to the dynamic character, Anne. Every chapter seems to reveal her limitless imagination! Please make sure your scholar is reading nightly. This weekend they will read Chapters 4 and 5.
Next week, scholars will complete Chapters 6-10. As a reminder, scholars will have daily reading checks over their reading that is assigned as homework.
MathIn math, we started fractions. We started with basic fractions
properties. Then, we learned about equivalent fractions. We learned how to
change mixed numbers into an improper fraction and vice versa. We also learned
how to compare fractions.
Next week, we will be changing the fractions into
decimals. We will also learn how to change repeating and nonrepeating decimals
to fractions.

Next week we will begin our exploration of Rome; we will discuss Rome’s origin and the development of its Republic. We will also discuss the impact of Julius Caesar on the expansion of the Roman Empire.
This week in Science scholars enjoyed learning about our last subgroup in the Plant Kingdom – angiosperms. Scholars enjoyed creating two Nature journal entries that had them observe a leaf and a flower.
We will conclude our unit on angiosperms next week and scholars will have a Unit test on Wednesday. Please review their test with them and encourage them to correct all of their mistakes when the test is returned.
