What's coming up next week?

Literature/Poetry

This week we have discussed Chapters 16 and 17 of The Tales of the Greek Heroes.  Scholars have also been working on annotations during class reading.  Next week, we will complete our first novel.  We will begin Anne of Green Gables after we return from Fall Break on October 26th

Grammar/Writing

This week in Grammar we learned about predicate nominatives, which are joined to the subject with a linking verb.. Next week students will learn about predicate adjectives.

This week we worked through the writing process and developed a three paragraph summary. Next week students will study note-taking and proper format for documentation.

Math

Last week, we started decimals. We learned how to read them, and how to add/subtract them. This week, we learned how to multiply and divide decimals, and how to do word problems with decimals. We also learned how to write numbers in scientific notation.

History

This week in History we identified the major historical city-states in Ancient Greece. We also identified significant characteristics of Democracy in Athens.

Next week we will discuss the major events and causes and effects of the Persian War. We will also be creating chapter outlines about Athen's golden age. Students will be able to present their work.

Science

Scholars enjoyed learning this week about Moss and Fern.  We concluded the week by creating a Nature Journal entry as we observed characteristics of moss and ferns that we had discussed earlier in the week.

Next week, scholars will complete a Unit Test on Thursday.  This test will cover the Scientific Method, Photosynthesis, Moss, and Ferns.  Scholars will receive a study guide on Tuesday that should be completed by using their Science Notebook.
