Important Information

  • Students who do not complete their homework will have to complete their homework during recess on the day the homework is due.
  • Scholars can receive a recess detention as a consequence for continual actions that distract from the learning environment during school. This is an opportunity for scholars to spend time reflecting on how to make good choices that will help them be successful here at Great Hearts. Parents will be notified before the detention is served.
  • Please make sure your scholar has his or her own copy of Anne of Green Gables (ISBN 978-4424-9000-0) because we annotate in class. B&M scholars should have brought their books on Monday 26.
  • Please have your scholar bring a locker shelf to help with organization of materials and to make for quicker visits.
  • Please place a cover on all textbooks (Math and Biology) ASAP. These are required.
  • Uniform infractions will be issued for scholars in violation of the GH uniform policy.
  •  Please view this video to learn how you can check if your child’s work has been uploaded properly, and please reach out to your child’s teacher(s) with any questions or concerns. We are here to support you!

What's coming up?

Literature/Poetry

Scholars have completed Anne of Green Gables up to Chapter 10.  They will be expected to read Chapters 11 and 12 over the weekend.  Scholars have enjoyed learning more about Anne and her extensive imagination! Please remind your scholar of the importance of annotating while they complete their nightly reading assignments.

Math

This week we learned how to change fractions into decimals. We also learned how to change terminating and repeating decimals to fractions.

Next week, we will add, subtract, divide, and multiply fractions.

History

This week in History we discovered the origins of Ancient Rome, and the development of the Roman Republic. Students analyzed primary source documents concerning the difference between Direct Democracy and a Republic. We also explored the causes and effects of the Punic Wars.

Next week, we will be discussing the roles and impact of Julius Caesar and Augustus on Rome. The students will begin their Life In Rome projects as well.

Science

Scholars have concluded their Unit on Kingdom Plantae!  All scholars have had their test returned and are expected to make corrections and obtain a parent signature.

Next week, we will begin our Unit on Kingdom Animalia.  We will first study symmetry and then conclude the week with sponges and jellyfish.  .
