Scholars of the month

Every month, Great Hearts Western Hills chooses a virtue to focus on. The virtue of the month for February was Citizenship. One scholar in each class is highlighted for showing that virtue. For February, the scholars who we would like to highlight are Neva Shakya from 6A and Makenzie Albers from 6B.

Important Information

  • Students who do not complete their homework will have to complete their homework during recess on the day the homework is due.
  • Scholars can receive a recess detention as a consequence for continual actions that distract from the learning environment during school. This is an opportunity for scholars to spend time reflecting on how to make good choices that will help them be successful here at Great Hearts. Parents will be notified before the detention is served.
  • Please make sure your scholar has his or her own copy of  Shane (ISBN- 978-0-544-23947-0) B&M scholars bring their books on Monday March 15thThis is very important as we are asking students to annotate in their own texts.
  • Please have your scholar bring a locker shelf to help with organization of materials and to make for quicker visits.
  • Please place a cover on all textbooks (Math and Biology) ASAP. These are required.
  • Uniform infractions will be issued for scholars in violation of the GH uniform policy.

What's coming up?

Literature

In Literature this week scholars have concluded Chapter 9 and analyzed the dynamic turn of Shane within the town.  Please encourage your child to complete Chapter 10 this weekend and annotate.

Math

This week, we continued working on Integers. We added and subtracted them using a number line. Then we added and subtracted them without using a number line.

Next week, we will go back to equations and start practicing past STAAR test problems.

History

This week in History we began our Industrial Revolution Unit. Scholars identified why it began in Britain and what events led to this dramatic advancement in society. We also discussed the many inventions that influence the growth of the textile industry.

Next week we will examine the working conditions and effects of the Industrial revolution.

Science

In Science this week scholars concluded there short study of the Earth structure.  It was wonderful seeing their creativity in their 3D models of the Earth.

Next week, we will discuss the Solar System.
