- Scholars can receive a recess detention as a consequence for continual actions that distract from the learning environment during school. This is an opportunity for scholars to spend time reflecting on how to make good choices that will help them be successful here at Great Hearts. Parents will be notified before the detention is served.
- Please make sure your scholar has his or her own copy of The Wind in the Willows (ISBN- 978-0-14-303909-9) B&M scholars bring their books on Monday April 12. This is very important as we are asking students to annotate in their own texts.

What's coming up?
Literature
This week scholars concluded the western novel, Shane. It was memorable to read together as a class as we discovered the depth of the bond between Shane and the Starrett family. It was also entertaining to read the detailed gunfight between Shane, Fletcher, and Wilson. As a reminder, scholars need to have all tests signed. Please ask your child to see our final novel test that they should be receiving from their homeroom teacher within the next few days. Scholars also received their next poem, "The New Colossus". Scholars will be expected to recite this historical poem found on the Statue of Liberty on April 26th. Please make sure your scholar is prepared to begin our last novel of the year, The Wind in the Willows, on Monday. It is important for scholars to have their own copy as they will be responsible for making annotations that will deepen their understanding of the text.
Math
This week in Math we reviewed order of operations and number properties on Monday. We reviewed areas and volumes on Tuesday. We also reviewed the properties of triangles on Wednesday. Then, we talked about integers, opposites, and absolute values on Thursday. On Friday, we learned to change fractions to decimals and percents and put them in order.
Next week, we will review proportions, percents, and converting one unit to other using proportions.
History
This week in History we finished up our unit over the 1st Industrial Revolution and started our exploration of American Immigration in late 1800s. The scholars have identified the different factors that led to an increase in immigration and the areas of the United States they settled.
Next week we will be discussing the benefits and challenges immigrants faced once arriving in the United States. Scholars will be creating their own immigrant memoirs next week as well
