What's coming up next week?

Literature and Poetry

Scholars concluded Chapter 13 of the Tales of the Greek Heroes this week.  Encourage them to share with you the 12 labours of Heracles and which one impressed them the most!  Next week, we will take a break from our novel to enjoy the short story, Lugalbanda. This is one of the oldest stories dating back to the ancient Mesopotamia Valley.  This short story will be in the Google classroom as a read aloud or as a pdf.  It tells the story of how a young prince got caught up in a war.

Writing

This week scholars learned how to construct an outline using a historical sequence.Next week, we will continue practicing using the correct form in documentation, such as in-text citations and Works Cited Page.

Grammar

This week, we learned about adverbs and how they are used in a sentence. Next week, we will analyze and practice diagramming sentences with adjectives.

Math

We started diving in the ocean of equations and inequalities this week. We have not gotten out of it yet. We are still swimming. Next week, however, we will finally move away from equations and inequalities after Tuesday. We will, then, enter the world of Decimals and Exponents.

History

This week in World History, we finished up the World Deserts unit and students completed their second test. Today, we  began exploring the characteristics of civilization, specifically within Mesopotamia. Next week, we will discuss how geography impacted the development of civilization Mesopotamia. We will also compare and contrast two major world religions, Judaism and Christianity.

Science

Scholars were introduced to the Kingdom Fungi and how penicillin was discovered by Andrew Fleming.  Next week, scholars will do a mushroom lab on Tuesday and will have their Unit 2 test on Friday.  Scholars are encouraged to have their own mushroom to follow along with the video on Tuesday.
