Scholars of the month
Important Information
- Students who do not complete their homework will have to complete their homework during recess on the day the homework is due.
- Scholars can receive a recess detention as a consequence for continual actions that distract from the learning environment during school. This is an opportunity for scholars to spend time reflecting on how to make good choices that will help them be successful here at Great Hearts. Parents will be notified before the detention is served.
- Please make sure your scholar has his or her own copy of Tom Sawyer (ISBN 978-0-141-32110-3). B&M scholars bring their books on Monday January 4th.
- Please have your scholar bring a locker shelf to help with organization of materials and to make for quicker visits.
- Please place a cover on all textbooks (Math and Biology) ASAP. These are required.
- Uniform infractions will be issued for scholars in violation of the GH uniform policy.

What's coming up?
Literature
We have walked with Anne as she matures through her many adventures in Avonlea. The scholars will be working on a brochure that will help them write a character analysis of Anne next week. Please encourage your scholar to show you their work on this brochure. Feel free to ask them questions about why and how Anne has changed over her time at Green Gables. We will be concluding our novel next week and will have a Literature Celebration on Friday. You should have received information and a sign up genius from our fabulous 6th grade room parents. Please continue to encourage your scholars to complete their vocabulary work and prepare for their weekly quizzes.
MathIn math, we continued solving equations. We learned how to solve equations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division transformation. We learned how to solve equations using multiple transformations.
Next week, we will solve word problems using equations. We will have a test on Wednesday. At the end of the week, we will start percent.
History

This week in history we briefly explored the Middle Ages, The Renaissance, The Age of Exploration, The Reformation, and the Scientific Revolution. All of these eras in history lead up to the Enlightenment.
Next week we will continue learning about the Enlightenment and discovering the important individuals who impacted modern thought and society.
Science
This week we have enjoyed diving into the Phylum Mollusk and concluded the week with a live earthworm observation.
Next Tuesday will be our next Science Test covering mollusks, the eye, and earthworms. The 6th grade scholars will conclude next week with a presentation from San Antonio Waste Management on Renewable/Nonrenewable resources, landfills, and the importance of recycling
