Important Information
- Students who do not complete their homework will have to complete their homework during recess on the day the homework is due.
- Scholars can receive a recess detention as a consequence for continual actions that distract from the learning environment during school. This is an opportunity for scholars to spend time reflecting on how to make good choices that will help them be successful here at Great Hearts. Parents will be notified before the detention is served.
- Please make sure your scholar has his or her own copy of Tom Sawyer (ISBN 978-0-141-32110-3). B&M scholars should bring their books every day.
- Please have your scholar bring a locker shelf to help with organization of materials and to make for quicker visits.
- Please place a cover on all textbooks (Math and Biology) ASAP. These are required.
- Uniform infractions will be issued for scholars in violation of the GH uniform policy.

What's coming up?
Literature
The 6th grade has enjoyed laughing at the satire found throughout the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. We are just about half way through this exciting novel. Please ensure your scholar is reading nightly and answering the question to prepare for our class discussions. We will discuss Chapters 17, 18, and 19 on Monday, February 8th. They will also be taking a quiz over the reading so far and their vocabulary list on Monday, February 8th.
Next week, scholars will read Chapters 20-28.
MathWe started Areas and Volumes this week. We learned how to find the
areas of parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, and rectangles. We also learned
to classify and name polyhedrons. Then, we learned how to find the volume and
surface areas of prisms.
Next week, we will learn to make net sketches of polyhedrons. Then
after a day of review, students will take the unit test. We will start
statistics after that. On Friday, they will learn to draw dot plots.

Next week we will explore Romanticism and end The French Revolution with a Test on Wednesday. Students can begin working on the study guide they received today. We will review together next Tuesday before the exam on Wednesday. Scholars will finish off next week with exploring the geography of Latin America.
What an exciting week in Science! We explored the Phylum Arthropod and discovered they are the largest phylum in the Animal Kingdom. Make sure to ask your child why they are everywhere! We ended our week with a great observation of crayfish.
Next week, we will
spend time on the different organisms in the insect class. Students did
receive their Insect Project assignment today. Please feel free to reach
out to me with any questions. Our next Science Test will be on Thursday,
